Your professional instructors will guide you as you learn the technical and customer service skills you need to provide excellent service to your clients in the real world. Plus, you’ll practice in an interactive barbershop environment.

Florida Academy's restricted barbering program teaches you the skills and techniques you need to pass the state board exam and begin your career as a barber. You'll learn through a combination of lectures, discussions, interactive group activities, demonstrations, videos, and PowerPoint presentations. Your coursework includes these topics:

• Hair Structure, Cutting, and Cleansing: Learn about the foundational forms and shade techniques to style and cut hair, understand the functions and use of various tools to cut and style hair, discover ways to calm children during service and know-how to implement infection control procedures.
• Safety, Sanitation, and Sterilization: In this course, you'll discover how important it is to have a sanitized working environment. Learn about the different structures and functions of tissue, the primary organs of the body, and cell structure. Practice first aid techniques, learn about chemicals, describe common hair and scalp conditions, and understand the positive effects of exercise and personal hygiene.
• Shaving, Beard, and Mustache Trimming: Learn to enhance a client's look with tools to design, shape, and shave facial hair. To do that effectively, this course teaches you to recognize the importance of bone structure, skin and hair texture, and hair growth.
• Florida Barbershop Laws, Rules and Business Bootcamp: Learn about the laws and licenses needed to run your own business. You’ll also learn how to build and retain a client base, communicate with staff and clients, develop business plans and find financing, and write a résumé and cover letter.

Once you successfully complete your accredited barbering program, you will be qualified to sit for the barbering exam through the Florida Board of Cosmetology.
